The festivities commence with the traditional Ladies' Sangeet:
This is the party where the ladies from the bride's family get together and sing:
In this case, the celebration takes over Mirage Banquet Hall.
There's also lots of mouthwatering food, but I can't show it, because I ate it. Sometimes art is sacrificed for a greater good, like the wellbeing of my belly.
After so many years of Indian wedding rituals, Jaago is still my favorite part:
It appears to be the most joyous of them all:
That goes on and on for the better part of the evening:
The next party is about Mehndi:
And about girls. Only girls:
Following day brings the Maiya and Choora:
The rangoli is put together by - you guessed - the ladies:
Jagz has mixed feelings about the oil in her hair:
Not sure about the sweet rice:
And totally against the turmeric paste on her face:
A decision is made regarding the rice - too much:
But she is happy to share the rice with her cousins and gives it away with a blessing:
The rangoli lived a short and colourful life:
Which will continue on the outside wall of the house:
The more it stays there, the better Jagz will get along with her future mother in law:
Choora is the last ritual before the big day:
The bride to be gets her wedding bangles on:
It's a moment as good as any for her mom to get emotional:
There's still some time left and there's no better way to conclude the evening:
And one more awesome thing about the Jaago. When done right, it involves the whole village:
At this point, I bet everyone wants to meet the groom. Stick around, it's worth the wait.
